The New Orchestra of Washington was founded in the summer of 2011 by some of the Washington area’s most accomplished and exciting professional musicians. Our ensemble has for main purpose to redefine orchestral and chamber music performance via an interpretative style that is fresh, relevant, and vibrant.
NOW presents contemporary music, folk, jazz, rock, as well as timeless classics via an interpretative style that is more intimate, more dynamic, more expressive, and more virtuosic. In NOW, every musician is a soloist and every piece is approached from a chamber music perspective. Thanks to the flexible and eclectic musical characteristics of its members NOW is able to present music in diverse ways: from solo works to any combination of chamber ensembles.
NOW’s concerts are “experienced” and not just “heard.” Our goal is to connect audiences to our music-making by offering creative programs that will take the audience on a journey to explore emotions ranging from the deeply moving to the powerfully exciting. NOW believes that it is the responsibility of contemporary performers to engage audiences in fresh, vital, and dynamic ways.
By departing from the belief that bigger is better, NOW strives for a financially sustainable model of orchestral performance that, with creative artistic planning, does not sacrifice the integrity of the music. NOW's lean structure has the flexibility and adaptability to provide creative and vibrant performances in large and small concert halls, churches, cafes, galleries, etc. As economic conditions put financial stress on families and organizations, NOW aims to produce concerts that are affordable and accessible, while remaining deeply meaningful.
