Shawn Wyckoff


Flutist Shawn Wyckoff is an avid solo and chamber musician who has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Merkin Concert Hall, The Library of Congress, BargeMusic, MOMA and the Guggenheim Museum.  Shawn currently tours North America as the flutist and director of Sonic Escape, a flute-violin-cello trio that performs ground-breaking original works, arrangements and improvisations.  Since 2009, Sonic Escape has performed throughout 22 states & provinces in an incredible variety of venues – concert halls, universities, museums, folk festivals, chamber music societies and house concerts – establishing Shawn as one of today’s leading proponents of flute-driven chamber music. 

Circle the Sea, their recently-released debut album, features an unprecedented range of sounds and techniques on the flute inspired by the musical traditions of Asia, Europe, North and South America.  Shawn is also the flutist and music arranger of TetraWind, a woodwind quartet specializing in contemporary American music.  Shawn is a First Prize winner of The Judith Lapple National Flute Competition, the Flute Society of Washington Competition and The Friday Morning Music Club Woodwind Competition.  He was named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar of the Arts and received the John Philip Sousa Award and the National Alliance for Excellence Award.  During his time as a National Symphony Youth Fellow, Shawn studied with Alice Weinreb and received the Stephen Brewster Award (given once a year by a panel of National Symphony Orchestra musicians).  Shawn holds a BM in Flute Performance from The Juilliard School, where he was a scholarship student of Robert Langevin and Jeanne Baxtresser.
